My second break-out session of day one was called "The Joy of Womanhood". I'll admit it to the world - I have a self image problem. I truly don't see what others claim to see. I wanted to go to a session that might give me some insight as to how I can stop the cycle I am in and not pass it on to my own daughter.
Sister Dibb and Sister Cook are counselors on the Young Women's General board. They both gave wonderful talks. Sister Dibb collects obituaries. The overall topic of her talk was "I want to leave a legacy. How will they remember me? She spoke of many obituaries that she has read over the years. Some of those were people were inspiring -- people you would want our life to be remembered just like. Others were sad, feeling like a life almost wasted. She said "We do not control when we leave this life. We must prepare every day to live with our Father in Heaven." I was very touched by her remarks. Having had the experience of helping to write an obituary myself, I really self-reflected and hope that if I were to die tomorrow, my obituary would touch the life of someone.
Sister Cook spoke of how we become women of God. She said that we must first know our identity. Second have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and third set a good example.
She said that the best way we can teach our young women is for us to know our own identity. I'm working on that. Of course I know I am a daughter of God. I know it. I just sometimes wonder if it pertains to me, like somehow I'm the one who is exempt from those blessings.
She said that there is danger in neglecting prayer. We were encouraged again, like the young women of the church are encouraged.to do three things 100% of the time:
Pray morning & evening
Read 5 minutes from the scriptures every day
Obey the commandments
Smile
She then taught that "even in our weakness, the Spirit comes from our Father.
She admonished us to make it a priority to be still, and taught that our examples do matter. She also said that "We should not deprive our Savior of helping us become who we should become."
