Training update

It's been a while since I have written about my training.

It has been going very well, thanks for asking. Ok, so maybe you didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure you all want to know. I ran several times this week. I have been feeling lightheaded so I went to the Dr on Tuesday to see what the problem was. They're pretty sure it was an inner ear infection. They don't come with pain, but pretty much screw up your equilibrium. I did go to the pool on Tuesday after the Dr, but I had both kids so I didn't swim laps. We just played around for a couple of hours and then went home.

Wednesday morning I got up and ran with a girl in our neighborhood. She pretty much kicks my butt, but she was gracious enough to run just hard enough that it pushed me, and she gave me some advice on how to increase my speed. On Thursday I ran a bit on a trail in Orem with my running class. It was the first time we have actually gone outside and I really enjoyed that. While at class I met a girl that lives in Spanish Fork, about three miles from me, and she invited me to run with her and some friends. So, Friday morning I met her at her house and we ran just over 3 miles. She really kicked my butt, but I was thankful to have someone to run with and I enjoyed knowing that I had actually found someone who I could run with and hopefully one day I will be right up with the big girls. I do have a lot of work to do, but I am willing to put the time in now.

Today Brett and I went on a bike ride. We left the kids at his parents' house in Springville and rode to Provo. We rode up around the temple and then back home. I'm pretty sure that Brett took me on the worst hills between Springville and Provo. I guess that which does not kill you, makes you stronger.

I am lucky to have people around me that are better than me and are willing to train with me. Because of them I push myself a little harder and ultimately improve my personal times. I have had many conversations with people lately and I keep getting told that I am very competitive. I'm not sure what to think of that. If competitive means that I want to better my time, then yeah, I guess I am competitive. Maybe one day I will actually win a race and feel good about being told that I am competitive :).

  1. Deni, being competetive is not a negative thing. I only say that to let you know that I am not that way (very much) and will therefore look very lazy in comparison to you!

  2. You must be in some incredible shape. So what is the trick to running? I've never really enjoyed it much--is there some technique that helps you love it?

  3. Jolayne,

I wish I could say that I am in incredible shape. My body naturally endures stuff, I'm just slow at it. As far as running, run off of the treadmill, and yes there is certain technique that makes you better. I am learning it, but definitely haven't mastered it. Running on the treadmill isn't good on your knees and it is boring (at least to me). It took me several runs to finally enjoy it, but I haven't found another sport that relieves my stress better than a good run. I tend to like to run alone. I know you get better by running with others, but I don't have to prove anything to anyone if I run alone, and I can vent all of my frustrations in the outside air.

Keep at it. Get outside and enjoy the scenery.
